Fernando Mariano Sampedro Marcos was appointed Secretary of State for the European Union at the Council of Ministers held on 19th December 2023.
He holds a degree in Market Research and Techniques, a Diploma in Business Studies (University of Valladolid) and a master's degree in international management (Centre for Economic and Commercial Studies). He has attended courses in International Negotiations (European Commission), European Diplomatic Programme (European External Action Service), Electoral Observation (Diplomatic School), International Organisations (Centre for Economic and Commercial Studies), Development (London School of Economics), International Economics (University of Skövde) and International Business (London Guildhall University).
With more than 20 years of experience in European Affairs and International Relations, he is currently a Cabinet member to the President of the European Commission, where he has served for more than 10 years as a civil servant, having previously worked in the Strategic Foreign Policy Unit (including G7 and G20) for the Secretariat General. He worked for 4 years in the European Parliament as Foreign Affairs Adviser. Prior to this, he worked for 6 years at the Economic and Commercial Offices of the Spanish Embassies in Chile and Denmark, and in the Territorial Directorates for Economy and Trade in La Rioja and Castilla y León.
