The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, will meet tomorrow, Friday 21 June, the Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Mohamed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, to host the First Strategic Dialogue, which is expected to help, among other things, to channel the Qatari investments in Spain committed to during the State visit in 2022.
This Strategic Dialogue, which is the result of the agreement signed by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, during his visit to Doha in April, is an annual meeting of Foreign Ministers with inter-ministerial participation that allows the strategic relationship between the two countries to be articulated.
José Manuel Albares will chair the political session during a lunch with the Prime Minister. The meeting will provide an opportunity to analyse the state of the bilateral relationship, as well as the regional and international situation, and is expected to conclude with a Joint Declaration.
At the bilateral level, in the area of trade and investments, the main objective is to provide political backing to the negotiation of the APPRI (Agreement for Reciprocal Promotion and Protection of Investments) and, above all, to make progress in the creation of investment instruments. Other issues addressed in the sectoral meetings of the Strategic Dialogue included issues related to defence, security and justice, innovation, education and culture.
Albares will tomorrow hold his fifth meeting with the Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Qatar after they met last 29 May in Madrid, during the visit of the follow-up committee of the Arab League and the Organisation for Islamic Cooperation on Gaza. The Spanish minister also visited Doha on 6 February, where he was also welcomed by the main authorities of the country, including the Emir of the State of Qatar, His Royal Highness Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani.
