The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, today received at the Ministry's headquarters in Plaza del Marqués de Salamanca the Minister for European Affairs of the Czech Republic, Martin Dvořák. At the meeting, Albares and Dvořák acknowledged the good political and economic relations between the two countries and agreed to further deepen them.
On the European agenda, the ministers agreed to prioritise the enlargement of the European Union, while emphasising the importance of maintaining an inclusive and rigorous process. Albares also reiterated the importance of trade agreements with third countries, with special mention of the EU-Mercosur Association Agreement.
Other current affairs were also discussed at the meeting, such as support for Ukraine, reiterating the commitment of both countries to stability and peace in the region, as well as the current situation in the Middle East and the need for a permanent ceasefire and the opening of channels for the massive influx of humanitarian aid, in addition to the release of all hostages.
Czech-Spanish sessions
The meeting ended at the Fundación Ortega-Marañón, where the two ministers took part in the inauguration of the first Czech-Spanish sessions, which aim to promote cultural and academic exchange.
Under the title “United in Europe: different paths, a common goal”, the conference is part of the 20th anniversary of Czechia's accession to the European Union and reinforces the commitment of Spain and the Czech Republic to continuous cooperation and dialogue, both bilaterally and within the framework of the European Union.
