PRESS RELEASE 083

José Manuel Albares meets with Arab Ambassadors in Cordoba

October 21, 2022
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, held a meeting today with ambassadors from Arab countries accredited in Spain at the headquarters of Casa Árabe [Arab House] in Cordoba.

During the meeting, José Manuel Albares reviewed the regional and international agenda, along with the preparations for the upcoming Euro-Mediterranean meetings in Barcelona and the Spanish Presidency of the European Union in the second half of 2023.

“We are closer to and feel closer to the Arab world than any other European country”, indicated the minister, adding that Spain “has always played a leading role in the Middle East Peace Process, in the Euro-Mediterranean association, in Euro-Arab dialogue, and we intend to continue doing so”, said the Minister for Foreign Affairs.

Over the course of the meeting, which was a continuation of the meeting held on 13 September with diplomatic representatives of the Arab countries, the minister conveyed to them the wish and intention of the Government of Spain “to continue stepping up relations with countries that are our neighbours and which we probably feel closer to than any other European country”.

“This will all be reflected in the upcoming Spanish Presidency of the European Council in the second half of 2023, when our country will work to push through a new agenda between the European Union and the Arab world”, added José Manuel Albares.
