Spain rejects general Tchiani's self-proclamation as president of Niger

Spain rejects in the strongest terms the self-proclamation of general Tchiani as president of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland and recognises no legitimacy other than that of President Mohamed Bazoum, derived from the sovereign and democratic will freely expressed by the people of Niger. The preservation of Niger's legal order and the safeguarding of its democratic institutions are essential.

Spain demands the immediate return to constitutional order and the normal functioning of the country's democratic institutions.​
