His Excellency the President of the Republic of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, will pay a State visit to Spain from 2 to 5 May.
The President of the Republic and his wife will be received by their Royal Majesties, who will host a Gala Dinner in their honour on 3 May. During his stay in Spain, the President of Colombia will hold a private meeting with HM the King and a meeting with the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez.
The President of Colombia will speak before the Cortes Generales (Parliament), meeting in joint session, and will receive the Medals of the Congress and the Senate, from the presidents of both chambers, Meritxel Batet and Ander Gil, respectively. He will also visit Madrid City Hall, where Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida will hand him the Golden Key to the City of Madrid.
During his visit to Spain, President Petro will participate in a business meeting, inaugurate the García Márquez Cultural Centre and receive the Medal of the University of Salamanca.
With this visit at the highest level, the Kingdom of Spain and the Republic of Colombia raise the relationship between both countries to a strategic level and strengthen their economic, cultural and political cooperation bonds.
