The Spanish Government condemns the rocket attacks from Lebanese territory and from the Gaza Strip on Israel, and calls for restraint to prevent the violence from spreading regionally and leading to the loss of more human lives.
Spain is firmly committed to regional stability. Respect for UN Security Council Resolution 1701, as well as the functions of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), are key to maintaining that stability.
The Government also reiterates its call on all parties to de-escalate tensions and allow for the normal observance of religious holidays at this time. Israel must scrupulously respect the status quo in Jerusalem and refrain from any action likely to raise tension. Israelis and Palestinians should resume dialogue as soon as possible to implement the two-State solution as the only possible response to the legitimate national aspirations of both sides.
