The opening ceremony will include speeches by Peter Mathieson, Rector of the University of Edinburgh, and Ignacio Cartagena Núñez, Spanish Consul General in the Scottish capital.
The Chair will be directed by the Scottish Hispanic, Alexis Grohmann, and will be dedicated to promoting the Spanish language as well as the Spanish and Hispanic culture in Scotland.

According to this study, Spanish is the foreign language most in demand by secondary school students in the United Kingdom.
