The event was attended by the Ambassadors of Spain and the EU, as well as the Counsellor for Culture and Science of the Spanish Embassy, who praised the work of European and Spanish scientists in the UK and congratulated themselves on the return of the United Kingdom to Horizon.
Representatives from Universities UK and the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation spoke with EU scientists about the challenges of Brexit and the new cooperation opportunities, thanks to the United Kingdom's return to Horizon. Most recognized that the programme will strengthen ties between British and European scientific institutions, and will benefit future research and collaboration.
Furthermore, it was announced that the European Commission has just awarded more than half a million euros to the CONNECTS-UK project, led by Spanish scientists, whose objective is to promote collaboration between the EU and the United Kingdom. This funding will reinforce the role of the Society of Spanish Scientists in the United Kingdom (CERU) in enhancing relations and scientific exchange between the two blocks after Brexit.
