The visit was part of the meetings held by the Embassy with different British cultural and educational institutions with the aim of strengthening and creating ties of collaboration between both countries.
The Ambassador visited Winchester Cathedral, where the wedding between HM King Philip II of Spain and HM Queen Mary of England took place in 1554. There is a chair at the cathedral in which HM King Philip II sat during the celebration of the marriage.
The Spanish diplomat was later received by the Director of Winchester College who showed him Liber Albus, a book that collects historical facts about the visit of HM King Philip II and HM Queen Mary to the school on the occasion of their wedding. The book contains, for example, the donation that Their Majesties made to students and to various cultural and educational institutions.
