The legitimation of the signature before the Consul in a private document accredits the identity of the signatory and the date of the legitimation of the signature.
A signature cannot be legitimized in a document containing legal acts if the law requires a public document, nor when its content is illegal. If the signature in the document generates tax implications, payment of due taxes must be previously proven.
By legitimizing the signature, the Consul does not attest to the content of the document nor express any judgment about its legality. The Consul assumes no responsibility for the content of the document.
Necessary documents
In addition to the documents listed below, the Consular Office may request additional data or documents when necessary to evaluate the application.
Valid ID or passport of the signatory.
NIE of the signer, if he is a foreigner.
Original document, which will be presented unsigned at the time of the personal appearance.
Payment of the fee.
Procedure
Personal attendance is mandatory the day the document is signed. Grantors must identify themselves with the original of their valid ID or passport.
