Where to apply according to the type of visa.
TYPES OF VISAS
Applications for short-term Schengen visas (stays of up to 90 days, including tourist, study or business visas) must be submitted in person by appointment only to the BLS Spain Visa Application Center in Washington DC. Please find specific information in the "Schengen visa" tab.
Direct family members of EU, EEA or CH citizens are entitled to submit their applications for short-term visas at the Visa Office in the Consular Section of the Embassy if they are traveling with the EU, EEA or CH citizen, or are on the way to joining them. In this case, the applicant must request an appointment in advance to the Visa Office of the Embassy via email cog.washington.vis@maec.es attaching scanned copies of the required documentation. Please write the email subject as follows: “APPOINTMENT REQUEST. Schengen visa for EU Family member. Given Name FAMILY NAME of the applicant”. In order to make the process faster, they can also submit their application at the BLS Spain Visa Application Center in Washington DC. Applications for study visas (stays for more than 90 days: NALCAP visa, Au-pair visa, General student visa, including student relative visa and visa for minor students) must be submitted in person by appointment only to the BLS Spain Visa Application Center in Washington DC.
Students with a Fulbright grant (from our jurisdiction) can submit their study visa applications directly to the Consular Section of the Embassy of Spain. In order to make the process faster, they can also submit their application at the BLS Spain Visa Application Center in Washington DC.
Applications for the following types of visas must be submitted in person by appointment only to the BLS Spain Visa Application Center in Washington DC.
Please make sure that you have all the required documentation before booking an appointment, as only applications with the complete and correct documentation will be admitted.

- OTHER WORK & RESIDENCY VISAS
Other types of work and residence visas (not listed in the previous section) must be submitted in person by appointment only to the Consular Section of the Embassy.
Once you have all the required documents you must scan and email them to cog.washington.vis@maec.es. If there is not enough space to include all the attached documents, you can send them in different, numbered emails. Please do not send emails if you do not have all the required documents yet. When we receive all the required documents, we will answer your mail and schedule an appointment to come in person to the Consular Section of the Embassy to submit the application. Please write the email subject as follows: “APPOINTMENT REQUEST. Visa Type. Given Name FAMILY NAME. Email Number”
- DIPLOMATIC & OFFICIAL VISAS (diplomatic or official passports)
