(Researchers, scientists and technicians invited or contracted by Spanish Public Administration, religious workers, and artists performing in Spain). To apply at this Consulate General you must be a resident of NSW, Queensland or the Northern Territory.
Each visa application must include:
1. Passport with a validity of at least 6 months and a photocopy of the details page.
2. One visa application form per applicant
3. One work permit exemption application form
4. Two passport sized photographs, one of which must be glued (not stapled) to the top right hand corner of the application form.
5. Contract from Company in Spain (in Spanish) detailing the activities to be carried out and any payments to be received.
6. For stays exceeding 90 days, a Fingerprint check from your nearest Police station, covering all states of Australia for Australian residents and Police Courts Check for New Zealand residents, and, police clearance certificates from any other country where the applicant has lived in the last 5 years (this/these documents must be less than 6 months old). Translated into Spanish.
7. For stays exceeding 90 days a Medical Certificate from your Doctor, stating that applicant “does not have any of the diseases that could harm the public health according to THE INTERNATIONAL HEALTH REGULATIONS (2005), and is fit to travel”. (must be less than 6 months old). Translated into Spanish.
8. A non-refundable visa fee.

The endorsed visa is valid for 90 days during which time you must present your original documents at the “Comisaría de Policía, Departamento de Extranjería” to apply for your residency card which will replace your visa.
For family members of the holder of the work contract must apply for a Non Lucrative residency visa
The processing time for family members takes approximately 1 month.

Apostilled through the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and translated in Spanish.

Procedure
This Consular Office is competent to accept visa applications from individuals residing in the consular district.
All non-working residence visas require the obtainment of an initial residence permit, which is processed at the same time as the visa application.
- Who can apply for a visa: Visa applications must be submitted by post to this Consular Office by the applicant.

2. Once it is received and there are no missing documents the visa will be processed, and our Central authorities in Spain will make a decision on the application.
3. Upon a decision being made the applicant must collect their passport in person from our office.
All visas must be applied for and collected within your country of legal residence. If you are not an Australian passport holder you must include a copy of your Australian VEVO obtained through the following website www.border.gov.au/vevo

To apply through this Consulate General you must be a RESIDENT (Bridging visas are not considered residency) and reside in New South Wales, Queensland or Northern Territory or in our Jurisdictions of Papua New Guinea, Nauru, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
- Proof of receipt: The Consular Office can, if requested, provide the applicant with proof of receipt of the application with a code that enables them to check the status of the dossier through the following link: https://sutramiteconsular.maec.es/Home.aspx
. The Consular Office can also provide a copy of the application form (form EX-01) and, where applicable, of the receipt of payment of the fee (form 790-52).
- Rectifying the application: The Consular Office may ask the applicant to submit any missing documents, or to provide additional documents or data that are necessary for a decision regarding the application. The applicant may also be called in for a personal interview.
- Decision period: The legal period for reaching a decision is of 1 month from the day after the application submission date, but this period may be extended if an interview or additional documents are requested.
- Collecting the visa: The visa must be collected in person by the applicant or by their legal representative (if the applicant is a minor) within a maximum period of 1 month, counted as of the day after the date on which the favourable decision is notified. The Consular Office will inform the applicant regarding the procedure for the return of the passport and any other original documentation.
- Refusal of the residence permit or visa: Refusals of the residence permit or visa will always be notified in writing, setting forth the grounds on which the decision adopted was based.
- Appeals: If a residence permit or visa is refused, the applicant may submit an appeal for reconsideration to this Consular Office within 1 month of the day following the date on which notification of the refusal is received. An application for judicial review may also be filed with the High Court of Justice of Madrid within the 2-month period beginning the day after the date on which the applicant receives notification of the refusal of the visa or residence permit or of the dismissal of the reconsideration appeal.
