THE FUNCTIONS OF THE CONSULATE
• CIVIL REGISTRY: Registration of Births, Marriages, Deaths and Guardianships; procedures related to Spanish nationality: conservation, recovery, acquisition, option; celebration of marriages of Spaniards and Spaniards with nationals of a third country.
• NOTARY: Acts and notarial powers of all types, wills, marriage agreements, protocol of documents.

CONSULAR ASSISTANCE
The Consulate provides assistance:
Spanish detainees: notify their relatives of the arrest, if the detainee so wishes; you are visited periodically, messages, correspondence and other shipments are delivered and received; You are assisted if you wish to be transferred to serve your sentence in Spain; aid can be granted.
ELECTORAL PROCESSES
In the case of holding general, regional and European elections, the Consulate:
1. Manage the Absent Resident Census
2. Process complaints regarding electoral lists
3. Processes, where appropriate, voting requests from temporary residents abroad
4. Manage the vote by mail within the consular demarcation
5. Facilitates in-person voting at Consular Offices

ADOPTION
1. International Adoption: The Consulate prepares reports about the country, its legislation, etc. and proceeds to register the birth if the filiation is established.
2. Consular Adoption: If the country's legislation allows, the adopter is Spanish and the adopter and adopter reside in the consular demarcation.

INFORMATION FOR SPANISH PEOPLE AND FOREIGNERS TRAVELING TO SPAIN
The Consulate provides general information to Spaniards, as well as specific information about the country's medical, educational and legal services.
It also provides information about procedures and costs related to the transfer of bodies and local companies dedicated to this matter.

INFORMATION TO SPAIN (MAEC). The Consulate informs the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the evolution of the political, economic, cultural and social situation in its area, as well as about the reflection of the image of Spain in the local media.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
INTERACTION WITH THE COMMUNITY AND SPANISH INSTITUTIONS
The Consul General participates in the activities organized by the Spanish community and the institutions in which it is organized, including the Spanish Clubs, in his area.
POLITICAL INTERLOCUTION
The Consul General maintains regular contacts with the political leaders of his area (Governors, Premiers, Ministers, Speakers, parliamentarians, etc.) and the DFAT (Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade), in coordination with the Ambassador of Spain in Australia.
COUNCIL OF RESIDENTS ABROAD (CRE): The Consul General meets periodically with the CRE to collect the concerns of the Spanish community and convey them to the Central Services.
CULTURAL PROGRAM: Organization of cultural activities, promotion of Spanish cultural industries, dialogue with Australian cultural institutions, participation in cultural activities in its area.
REPRESENTATION. Attendance at social, political and cultural events of all kinds representing Spain, by delegation of the Spanish Ambassador to Australia.
TRADE AND BUSINESS: Monitoring of the economic situation of the country or consular demarcation, accompaniment of activities carried out by Spanish companies, dialogue with their managers and, where appropriate, with the local authorities, in coordination with the Commercial Office of Spain (Sydney).

OR WHAT A CONSULATE CANNOT DO
• Renew or issue the National Identity Document (DNI).
• Guarantee entry into the country.
• Find work or accommodation for you.
• Guarantee you, lend you money (except in emergency cases) or pay your fines.
• In case of detention or hospitalization, guarantee better treatment than that granted to nationals of the country.
• Pay medical care expenses.
• Pay the costs of transferring mortal remains to Spain or carry out actions that, within the scope of this transfer, correspond to the next of kin.
• Perform functions typical of a travel agency.
• Make people available to act as guides, interpreters or social workers.
• Appear on your behalf in litigation or provide you with legal opinions.
