IN BRUSSELS

Last Foreign Affairs Council for the Spanish Presidency

José Manuel Albares attended the last Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) under the Spanish Presidency at the EU capital. The ministers discussed three major issues: the conflict between Israel and Palestine, the war in Ukraine and the situation in the Sahel.

At the meeting, Minister Albares once again called for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza "that is consolidated and sustainable"; and he defended the support that the European Union should give to the Palestinian National Authority, "so that it may be one of the elements that breaks this circle of violence".

Likewise, José Manuel Albares reiterated Spain's idea to hold a peace conference "that would materialise the two-State solution, thus putting an end to the conflict between Israel and Palestine forever".

On the other hand, José Manuel Albares once again expressed Spain's commitment to the European path for Ukraine and reiterated our country's support "for as long as may be necessary".

Regarding the Sahel, the head of Spanish diplomacy recalled that it is a region where we have good partners, and called for the commitment and interaction of the European Union "to remain in the Sahel with all the States and, of course, alongside ECOWAS, a regional organisation that is our partner in the development and stability of the region".
