PRESS RELEASE 036

Spanish MFA repatriates 8,000 Spaniards from Middle East

Evacuation operations remain in full swing in the largest evacuation in history carried out by the Ministry

Today
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation has evacuated 8,000 Spanish nationals since the start of the US attacks on Iran and the Iranian regime’s response against numerous neighbouring countries in the Middle East.

Minister Albares is closely monitoring operations, and both the crisis unit and the embassies in the region are fully mobilised to evacuate Spanish nationals by every possible means and using all available resources.

Thus, the MFA has been assisting those affected from day one, chartering three military flights, evacuating people by land to safe countries from which they have been able to fly to Spain, and, through the embassies, making countless arrangements with commercial airlines so that when airspace reopens there will be flights to Spain and Spanish nationals will be given priority on them, as well as placing Spanish nationals on flights from other European countries.

“As of today, all evacuation operations remain active except for the one in Tehran, which was successfully completed with the evacuation of our embassy,” the minister stated.

This is the largest evacuation operation in history carried out by the Spanish MFA, and it will continue until all Spaniards who wish to be evacuated have been evacuated.
