On Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 July, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation is hosting the Third Meeting of Ibero-American National Coordinators and Heads of Cooperation, at which negotiations on the Final Declaration of the Madrid Ibero-American Summit will begin.
In addition, the outcomes of the sectoral ministerial meetings held to date have been reviewed, and preparations have been made for the traditional Breakfast of Ibero-American Foreign Ministers, which will take place during the United Nations Ministerial Week in September in New York.
Representatives of the 12 Associate Observer countries of the Ibero-American Summits system were also given a forum at this meeting, dedicated to the Community’s external outreach and aimed at deepening its engagement with other regions.
Finally, this meeting has enabled the Ibero-American organisations – the Ibero-American Social Security Organisation (OISS), the International Youth Organisation for Ibero-America (OIJ) and the Organisation of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI) – to present a review of their activities over the past year.
The Meeting of National Coordinators and Heads of Cooperation, chaired by the State Secretary for Ibero-America and the Caribbean and for Spanish around the World, Susana Sumelzo, and the Ibero-American Secretary-General, Andrés Allamand, builds on the work begun at the Meeting of National Coordinators held in Panama on 23 June, where the methodology, content and structure of the final declaration were agreed; this declaration will focus on generating mandates from Heads of State and Government aimed at achieving tangible results with a direct impact on Ibero-American citizens.
