Ministry of Foreign Affairs applauds inclusion of Catalan in the European Schools teaching

Thursday, April 10, 2025
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation is pleased with the decision taken today in Cyprus by the Board of Governors of the European Schools to include Catalan as part of the European Schools education system. The agreement, adopted by the organisation’s top governing body, means that students will have the option of being taught in Catalan, which will be given status “Other National Language”.

This agreement is another example of the results of the Spanish Government’s work to promote the use and recognition of the official languages of Spain in the EU, following the administrative agreement signed on Monday to allow Spanish representatives to speak in our official languages in the plenary sessions of the European Economic and Social Committee, as was already the case in the Council of the European Union and the European Committee of the Regions.
