With the renewal of this agreement, the collaboration between the two institutions continues, allowing legal assistance to be provided for Spanish women, their descendants who are minors, and persons subject to their guardianship, custody or care, if they are victims of violence abroad
The Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Xavier Martí Martí, has today signed, together with the President of the General Council of Spanish Lawyers, Salvador González Martín, the renewal of the agreement with the Advocacy and Human Rights Foundation, for four more years, with the option to extend for a further four years.
Embassies and Consulates-General will therefore continue to provide the necessary information to Spanish women who suffer violence abroad about their rights and the possibility of requesting legal assistance under the provisions of the agreement.
The assistance is provided by legal professionals specialised in the field and includes the option of advice both prior to the possible return to Spain, and after returning. In Spain, all victims of violence against women who so request are guaranteed free specialised defence and representation by the same legal institution in all judicial and administrative proceedings stemming directly or indirectly from the violence they have suffered.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation and the Advocacy and Human Rights Foundation of the General Council of Spanish Lawyers thus reaffirm their commitment to comprehensive legal assistance for victims of violence against women abroad.
