The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, held a meeting this Wednesday, 30 April, with the Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy, Jessika Roswall, to whom he conveyed Spain's support for adding new impetus to the Green Pact so that it remains an essential and guiding element for this new Commission.
Albares, who received the European Commissioner during her visit to Madrid, supported the regulatory simplification proposals presented by the Commission and agreed with the Commissioner on maintaining the EU's climate objectives and green agenda. For the Spanish Minister, reaching our climate objectives in a cost-effective way is essential for economic growth, economic security and increasing Europe's industrial competitiveness.
During the meeting with the Commissioner, they also agreed to uphold the EU's resilience, to maximise the benefits of the green transition through rules-based trade, and to strengthen the EU's strategic autonomy. In the same vein, they argued that a priority must be the inclusion of policies to improve risk management in the Water Resilience Strategy, which should enable Member States to withstand extreme events such as floods and droughts.
