The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, has today introduced the new Interministerial Commission for Africa (CIMA) at his Ministry’s headquarters. The event was attended by the Second Vice-President of the Government of Spain and Minister for Work and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz; the Minister for the Presidency, Justice and Parliamentary Relations, Félix Bolaños; the Minister for Economy, Trade and Business, Carlos Cuerpo; the Minister for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente; the Minister for Defence, Margarita Robles; the Minister of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030, Pablo Bustinduy; the Minister of Health, Mónica García; and the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz, as well as other representatives of the different ministries involved.
The creation of this Commission is part of the implementation of the new Spain-Africa Strategy for 2025-2028, presented by the President of the Government on 5 December and which provided for the creation of this body in its Action 13.
The Commission joins the various initiatives established in the field of cooperation with Africa by Albares, such as strengthening diplomatic deployment in West Africa or the International Conference on Financing for Development, which will take place on 30 June in Seville.
“Working together through a strategic relationship”
With this slogan, the President of the Government presented the new Spain-Africa Strategy for 2025-2028 on 5 December. The Strategy sets out five strategic objectives broken down into 100 lines of action, with number 13 establishing the creation of an Interministerial Commission for Africa to ensure consistent Strategy implementation, acting as a mechanism for monitoring, coordinating and reviewing Spain's foreign policy towards Africa.
The Commission will meet biannually at ministerial level, and quarterly at State Secretary or Director General level for the ministries carrying out actions on the African continent and that express an interest.
