PRESS RELEASE 008

Albares inaugurates the new FIIAPP headquarters in Madrid

The new facility, with a capacity for 250 people, will house the staff until a public site is assigned

Yesterday

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, inaugurated today the new offices of the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Public Administration and Policies (FIIAPP) in the Spanish capital, which are located in a building in the Feria de Madrid district.

The new facilities, with a capacity for 250 people, prioritise collaborative work with numerous shared workspaces. This is a privately rented office until a public site can be assigned to the Foundation.

These new offices will house part of the FIIAPP's 300-strong staff, of whom 80 are based abroad. The average age is 44, and the majority of staff members are women, who hold 62% of the positions in the Foundation.

After visiting the new facilities, which cover an area of 3,096 square metres, Albares held a meeting with the Foundation's team to explain the Spanish Cooperation reform process, emphasising the new specific role that Law 1/2023, of 20 February, on Cooperation for Sustainable Development and Global Solidarity, assigns to the FIIAPP as an instrument for external action and cooperation.

One year in the presidency

The new facilities will be inaugurated shortly after the Minister completes one year at the helm of the Foundation, having assumed the presidency in January 2024.

Since then, Albares has embarked on a process to change the FIIAPP's statute, its governance bodies and its visual identity, among other aspects. This process is part of the Spanish Cooperation reform project and the complete integration of the Foundation into the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation.

FIIAPP currently implements 118 institutional cooperation projects in 114 countries, with an average annual execution of 70 million euros per year. It works in areas such as the enlargement of the European Union, social cohesion in Latin America and the Caribbean, citizen security in West Africa and comprehensive drug policy in Central Asia. Within this framework, the FIIAPP, whose Board of Trustees is made up of ministers, State secretariats and senior public administration officials, mobilises more than 620 professionals from 180 public sector institutions every year.
