The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, explained today Spain's response to the security and defence challenges arising in the current international context during his participation in the Munich Security Conference, where various discussions took place that reflected different perspectives on global multipolarity.
Albares had the opportunity to take part in several panels. He participated in the plenary session under the theme “Building or Burning Bridges: Economic and Development Cooperation Amid Multipolarisation” and was the keynote speaker at the Middle East Advisory Group session titled “Proactive Positions: Spain’s Approach to Diplomacy in the Middle East”, a session specifically prepared by the organisation to allow the minister to present Spain's foreign policy stance in the region.
This latest edition set a record for attendance, with a total of 51 heads of State and Government and over a hundred foreign and defence ministers. Participants included Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President António Costa, EU High Representative Kaja Kallas, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, as well as senior representatives from countries such as the U.S. and China.
Albares also took advantage of his participation in this prestigious forum to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from China, Egypt, Israel, and Andorra, as well as with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the UNRWA Commissioner-General, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
