Spain calls for protection of civilian population in Lebanon

Tuesday, March 17, 2026
Spain strongly condemns the announcement by the Israeli authorities that displaced Lebanese citizens will be barred from returning to their homes indefinitely. This comes on top of the illegal and disproportionate order to evacuate the civilian population south of the Zahrani River.

The situation in Lebanon is extremely worrying. The Government demands respect for international humanitarian law and calls for restraint.

The Spanish Government also condemns the attacks on the UNIFIL contingent, the most recent of which were carried out by non-State actors last weekend, as well as Hezbollah’s attacks against Israel.

Spain reaffirms its firm commitment to regional stability, the protection of civilians and respect for international law, and will continue to work with its international partners and within the framework of the United Nations to promote a de-escalation of violence and to foster a peaceful and lasting solution in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolution 1701 that contributes to stability and security in the region.
