Spain welcomes awarding of 2026 Sakharov Prize to International Criminal Court and reaffirms commitment to international justice

Spain welcomes the awarding of the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought to the International Criminal Court and its judges and staff in recognition of their work in the fight against impunity and in support of the protection and redress for victims of the most serious crimes.

The awarding of this prize sends an unequivocal message of support for international justice. The International Criminal Court must be able to carry out its mandate with independence, integrity and impartiality, free from external interference or pressure.

Spain reiterates its firm support for the International Criminal Court, its judges and staff, and their indispensable work in strengthening international justice and upholding the dignity of victims.​
