The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirms its commitment to Feminist Foreign Policy

Saturday, March 8, 2025
On March, International Women's Day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation reaffirms its commitment to Feminist Foreign Policy and to the defence of the rights of women and girls around the world.

This year, we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the 25th anniversary of the UN Women, Peace and Security Agenda, instruments that have contributed to the progress in gender equality in recent years. However, much remains to be done. In an international environment where women's rights are under attack, it is more important than ever that the international community works together to protect women and girls around the world.

Through Feminist Cooperation, we will continue to enable the organisation and effective participation of women in decision-making spaces; equal access to health, education and employment; protection from all forms of violence; and the defence of the sexual and reproductive rights of all women and girls around the world.

We will continue to support women's participation in peacebuilding and post-conflict reconstruction processes, which ensure that peace is lasting and sustainable. We will continue working to ensure that Palestinian, Syrian, Afghan and other women are included in the political processes taking place in their countries.

We will also continue to promote the application of parity in leadership and decision-making positions in UN bodies and agencies and in other multilateral fora, from a human rights perspective. We will continue to promote at the UN level the initiative of gender rotation in the Presidency of the General Assembly, as well as that the next candidate for the Secretary General should, at last, be a woman.
