Former Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, murdered

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation deeply regrets the death of the former Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, who was shot at an electoral event today in the Prefecture of Nara.

Today is a sad day for Japan and for Spain. During his term of office as Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe contributed to forging closer bilateral ties between the two countries, commemorating their 150th anniversary with an official visit to our country, during which time a Strategic Association was signed.

The ministry feels the pain of his family and of the Japanese people, and passes on its sincere condolences at this terrible loss.
