Spain also wishes to congratulate the people of Honduras on the smooth development of these elections against a complex backdrop marked by the COVID-19 health crisis, and on the high turnout, which shows the commitment of the people of Honduras to democratic values in an election process that enjoyed the supervision of the European Union and Organization of American States election observation missions, both supported by Spain.

The Government of Spain welcomes the different electoral reforms pushed through over the last four years, which have been accompanied and backed by Spain, the European Union, the United Nations and the Organization of American States and have contributed to strengthening the electoral system and institutions, as can be witnessed over the course of these elections.

The Government of Spain welcomes the speech on reconciliation, peace and justice given on Sunday night by the President-elect and declares its firm intention to continue boosting the already close bilateral and cooperation relations that unite our two countries, with a view to promoting the well-being and prosperity of our peoples within the scope of the Ibero-American Community of Nations, which this year is celebrating its 30th anniversary.
