​The central role of the Permanent Representation of Spain to the United Nations in New York is to represent Spain and defend its interests before the United Nations headquarters. This function includes, among other matters:


  • ​Attending and actively participating in the Organization's meetings and events.
  • Overseeing the functioning of the Organization and the fulfillment of its objectives.
  • Defending the Spanish position in the meetings and activities of the Organization.
  • Promoting the presence of Spanish officials in the different agencies.

The Representation reports directly to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, but its representation work extends to the entire Public Administration of Spain.
