The Permanent Representative of Spain to the United Nations, Héctor Gómez, participated on February 10 and 11 in the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit (Sommet pour l'action sur l'AI), which brought together in Paris States, international organizations, companies and representatives of civil society.

The meeting, which aims to promote advances in artificial intelligence in sectors such as health, education, environment and culture, was a unique opportunity for the international community to address global challenges in the field and discuss the main common actions to be taken at the global level.

Héctor Gómez attended the Summit together with Maritza Chan, Permanent Representative of Costa Rica to the United Nations. Spain and Costa Rica are co-facilitators of the United Nations process to establish an independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence and a Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance.

During the Summit, Gómez held a series of meetings and gatherings aimed at exchanging information and knowledge on issues that can help shape the UN artificial intelligence project. He also participated in a workshop on global governance of artificial intelligence.

After the Summit, the delegation travelled to Geneva, where it participated with Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary General of the United Nations International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and Amandeep Singh Gill, in briefings first with delegates from the States and then with representatives of United Nations agencies based in Geneva. During the latter meeting, the co-facilitators were able to learn more about the work being done by these agencies in the field of Artificial Intelligence.
