Today Spain has reaffirmed its commitment to peace." He also stressed that Spain will mobilize an additional package of 16 million euros this year to support the Palestinian people.
During his stay in Jordan, President Sánchez met with several international personalities, including the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas. At the meeting, Abbas expressed his gratitude for Spain's historic decision to recognize Palestine as a state, a move that President Sánchez believes will contribute significantly to the two-state solution.
He also held a meeting with King Abdullah II, thanking him for organizing the conference and reiterating Spain's commitment to humanitarian aid. President Sánchez also called on the international community to act urgently to mitigate the suffering in Gaza, emphasizing that it is a moral imperative to move towards concrete solutions.
For his part, Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares reaffirmed Spain's commitment to the protection of civilians and compliance with international humanitarian law. Participating in the conference working group, Minister Albares stressed the importance of ensuring the arrival of all necessary humanitarian aid to Gaza.
President Sánchez and Minister Albares joined the global call for the parties involved to act responsibly and seize the opportunity provided by the UN Resolution to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of the hostages held by Hamas. They also expressed strong support for U.S. President Joe Biden's plan to achieve a cessation of hostilities.
