While in New York on Wednesday, Queen Letizia and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden visited the Columbia University Cancer Center together for an event organized by the White House and the Spanish Cancer Association (Asociación Español Contra el Cáncer) to highlight the importance of cancer research and global cooperation in finding a cure, ahead of World Cancer Research Day. Early in the day, the Queen held a meeting at the Instituto Cervantes with Spanish cancer researchers. Queen Letizia is the Honorary President of the Spanish Cancer Association.
On Tuesday, the Queen also met with the Directors General of the World Health Organization and the FAO, Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus and Qu Dongyu, as well as the Executive Director of UNESCO, Catherine Russell. Following Her meeting with Ms. Russell, the Queen participated in the High-Level Meeting on Promoting and Protecting Learners' Mental Health and Psychosocial Wellbeing in Schools and Learning Environments. Earlier that same day, Her Majesty met with UNICEF mental health experts, in addition to youth mental health activists. Queen Letizia is the Honorary President of UNICEF Spain and a UNICEF Advocate for the Mental Health of Children and Adolescents.
