Minister Albares and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed issues on both the bilateral and international agenda; these included the upcoming NATO Summit, to take place in Madrid on June 29 and 30 of this year, Latin America, the situation in Ukraine, and collaboration in the multilateral arena, among other topics.
Following the meeting with Secretary Blinken, Minister Albares will see Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Congressman and Honorary Chair of the U.S.-Spain Council Joaquin Castro, Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) Luis Almagro, and President of the Inter-American Development Bank Mauricio Claver-Carone.
Tomorrow, the Minister will meet with Hispanic leaders in the U.S. He will then participate in “The Transatlantic Relationship: A View from Spain” at CSIS (Center for Strategic and international Studies) with President and CEO Dr. John Hamre. The Minister will end his final day in Washington will a meeting with Congressman Gregory Meeks, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
The goal of this two-day visit is to highlight Spain and the United States’ close alliance. Spain-U.S. relations have expanded and been enhanced over the years, and are particularly strong in the areas of economy and trade, security and defense, and cooperation in the face of challenges like the fight against climate change and COVID-19.
