Visa for diplomatic and official passport holders


Important information

  • Holders of Indian diplomatic passports do not need a visa for short-term stays in Spain (less than 90 days).​
  • Holders of diplomatic passports from Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives and Sri Lanka need visa for short-term stays in Spain (less than 90 days).
  • Holders of official passports from India, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives and Sri Lanka need need visa for short-term stays in Spain (less than 90 days).
  • Holders of diplomatic and official passports need to apply for accreditation visa in case of official postings in Spain.
  • Read the instructions carefully and follow the procedure. Otherwise, delays in the visa processing may occur.​

1. Required documents and procedure for courtesy visa (official passports from India)

Documents

  1. Application form. Click hereIt opens in new window. Duly completed (full postal address, email address and telephone should not be omitted), dated and signed in blue ink by the applicant or both parents if a minor. One photograph not older than 6 months of the applicant, 35-45 mm and on a white background should be affixed on the application form.
  2. Official passport of the applicant with at least two blank pages, valid for at least 6 months after the duration of the anticipated stay and issued in the last ten (10) years.
  3. One copy of the pages of the passport with biographic data.
  4. Original and copy of the Note Verbale issued by the Ministry of External Affairs clearly stating the purpose of the visit to Spain, travel dates and duration of the envisaged stay in Spain.​
  5. In case of minors applying alone or not with both parents, the application must include a notarized authorization letter signed by both parents. The parent who is not present at the moment of the application must submit as a proof of the signature a notarized copy of the passports or PAN cards or driving license. 
  6. If relevant, authorization in favor of a representative to submit the visa application and collect the passport on behalf of the applicant. The authorization must be signed in original by the holder of the diplomatic/official passport​.​
Procedure

  • All holders of Indian official passports must submit their visa application at the Consular Section of the Embassy of Spain in New Delhi, with prior appointment through the following email: emb.nuevadelhi.vis@maec.es​​. The appointment must be confirmed by the Consular Section. 
  • Applicants must be present for biometrics. The Consular Section takes no responsibility should the former biometrics have been deleted from the Schengen system and should the applicant decide not to appear.
  • Visas will be issued within 5-7 days.

2. Required documents and procedure for courtesy visa (diplomatic & official passports from Nepal and Sri Lanka)

Documents

  1. Application form. Click hereIt opens in new window. Duly completed (full postal address, email address and telephone should not be omitted), dated and signed in blue ink by the applicant or both parents if a minor. One photograph not older than 6 months of the applicant, 35-45 mm and on a white background should be affixed on the application form.
  2. Official/diplomatic passport of the applicant with at least two blank pages, valid for at least 6 months after the duration of the anticipated stay and issued in the last ten (10) years.
  3. One copy of the pages of the passport with biographic data.
  4. Original and copy of the Note Verbale issued by the Ministry of External Affairs clearly stating the purpose of the visit to Spain, travel dates and duration of the envisaged stay in Spain.​
  5. In case of minors applying alone or not with both parents, the application must include a notarized authorization letter signed by both parents. The parent who is not present at the moment of the application must submit as a proof of the signature a notarized copy of the passports or PAN cards or driving license. 
  6. If relevant, authorization in favor of a representative to submit the visa application and collect the passport on behalf of the applicant. The authorization must be signed in original by the holder of the diplomatic/official passport​.​
Procedure

Applicants from Nepal and Sri Lanka have 2 options for submission:
    • ​Submission at the Consular Section of the Embassy of Spain in New Delhi
      • Applicants are required to schedule an appointment through the following email: emb.nuevadelhi.vis@maec.es​​. The appointment must be confirmed by the Consular Section. 
      • Applicants must be present for biometrics. The Consular Section takes no responsibility should the former biometrics have been deleted from the Schengen system and should the applicant decide not to appear.
      • Visas will be granted on a gratis basis (no consular fee).
    • Submission at the BLS Visa Application Center (VAC) in Kathmandu and Colombo
      • Applicants are required to write an email to emb.nuevadelhi.vis@maec.es​Once approved by the Consular Section, the applicant can submit the application and documents at the BLS VAC.
      • Applicants must be present for biometrics at BLS premises. The Consular Section takes no responsibility should the former biometrics have been deleted from the Schengen system and should the applicant decide not to appear.
      • Visas will be granted on a gratis basis (no consular fee). However, applicants will have to pay BLS service fees.​​​

3. Required documents and procedure for courtesy visa (diplomatic & official passports from Bhutan and Maldives)

  8. For parents: certificate of financial dependency stating that during the stay in Spain, they will not undertake any economic activity and that all expenses will be borne by the main applicant.​
