Statement on the Occasion of the United Nations Day

Saturday, October 24, 2026

Today, 24 October, United Nations Day, Spain reaffirms its commitment to the United Nations and to the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, as we work towards building a world in which peace, equality and the dignity of all people prevail.

Global challenges require global solutions. Spain advocates for a renewed, inclusive and effective multilateral system, with the United Nations at its core, based on full respect for international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

Spain remains firmly committed to the United Nations. This commitment is reflected in its participation in United Nations peacekeeping missions, to which more than 137,000 men and women from the Spanish Armed Forces and State Security Forces and Corps have contributed in over fifty operations.

It is also reflected in Spain’s steadfast commitment to the protection and promotion of human rights, currently through its membership of the Human Rights Council, as well as to the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals. Particular emphasis is placed on combating hunger, poverty and discrimination; achieving gender equality and eradicating violence against women and girls; strengthening cooperation on global health; protecting the environment; and tackling climate change, both within Spain and through international development cooperation.
