Within the framework of the High Visibility events of the European Union on Maritime Security, Spanish Frigate 'Santa María' has docked at Sultan Qaboos Port of Muscat from 29/1/2023 to 2/2/2023. A reception co-hosted by the EU Delegation in Riyadh, the Spanish Embassy in Oman and the EUNAVFOR Atalanta Force Commander was held on board with officials from the EU, Oman and diplomatic and UN representation.
Atalanta operates under the EU flag in the Western Indian Ocean in its effort to deter piracy activity and armed robbery at the sea. With its executive mandate recently renewed, Atalanta Operation has evolved as a broader maritime security provider, to address the challenges of a wide range of illegal activities at the sea, also through capacity building with local partners and enhancing the network in this field between the stakeholders in the region.
