The prize was delivered by Mr Fernando Bartolomé Usieto, the Education Attaché of the Spanish Embassy in London. Aleksy was nominated by his Spanish teacher, Silvia Sobrado. The distinction was earned in recognition of an outstanding academic record, which includes proficiency in multiple languages. Aleksy's interest in Spanish, its culture and history has led him to undertake a project focused on the plays of Alfonso Sastre, and he is currently planning to study Medieval and Modern Languages at the University of Cambridge.
The prize for the best Spanish student in the United Kingdom is awarded to the GCSE student who achieves the highest results in Spanish, as well as the highest academic achievements.
This initiative is organised on an annual basis by the Education Office of the Embassy of Spain in the United Kingdom, and is sponsored by the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Regional Government of Castile and León.
