Every year a Catholic mass is celebrated and a floral tribute made at the tomb of Queen Catherine of Aragon, in which the Embassy of Spain, local authorities and the people of Peterborough participate. In addition, the city is filled with conferences, recitals and exhibitions to remember The Queen and Her work through the Catherine of Aragon Festival.
The first wife of Henry VIII is especially loved by the English for promoting culture, helping the most disadvantaged and supporting the education of women and girls. The charismatic Princess of Wales was Queen of England between 1509 and 1533. As the plaque on her tomb reads: “a Queen loved by the English people for her loyalty, piety, bravery and compassion.”
Catherine of Aragon is one of the most important figures in history for both Spain and the United Kingdom.
