The Tudor Heart, found by a metal detectorist in Warwickshire in 2019, is a heart-shaped gold pendant with enamelled motifs, attached to a 75-link gold chain by a hand-shaped clasp. On the front, a white and red Tudor rose entwined with a pomegranate tree, the emblem of Catherine of Aragon, representing fertility and her Spanish homeland, can be seen. Below is a banner with the word "toujours," which means "always" in French.
Research by the British Museum has revealed that the pendant may have been created to celebrate the engagement of Catherine and Henry VIII's 2 year old daughter, Princess Mary, to the 8 month old French heir.
The Ambassador, José Pascual Marco, had the opportunity to appreciate the jewel and learn more about its unique features and history.
The British Museum is seeking benefactors to keep the piece of jewelry in the UK.
