Mr. Puente met with the British Secretary of State for Transport, Heidi Alexander, to whom he conveyed the interest of Spanish companies in participating in the plans of the British railway after its renationalisation, especially the expansion of high-speed trains. They also discussed the situation of air transport, a key element of relations between the two countries with more than 400 daily flights, and the importance of decarbonising the sector.
The Minister then visited the headquarters of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), whose council is currently chaired by Spain. He spoke with the organisation's Secretary General, Arsenio Domínguez, supporting the need to develop a global strategy to reduce pollution from commercial maritime traffic.
The Minister also met with Spanish companies working in the United Kingdom, to whom he conveyed the Spanish Government's support. The Minister, accompanied by the Deputy Mayor for Transport for London, visited the Silvertown tunnel, a new infrastructure under the River Thames in which several Spanish companies are participating and which represents the largest investment on roads in London for the last thirty years.
