This year's award went to Rose Collier, who carried out a research on the 15th-century painting Saint George and the Dragon by the Spanish painter Bernat Martorell, which is at the Art Institute of Chicago.
This award, the a result of the collaboration between the Embassy of Spain and ARTES, was created in 2013 to distinguish young talent in the field of Hispanic arts and culture studies in the United Kingdom.
The award is a tribute to the memory of the art historian, Juan Facundo Riaño, who dedicated his life to promoting and publicising ancient Spanish art, and who specialized in Islamic and medieval art, which at that time were less known and valued abroad.
Riaño played a very important role in the creation of the collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, which today exhibits very important pieces of decorative art from Spain.
