Ambassador Aparici was received by Philip Clarke, the Centre’s Director of Programmes; Lord David Isaac, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Almería (UAL); and Caroline Archer, Head of Partnerships at the University of the Arts London, of which St. Martins is part of. They explained the centre’s work and the school's plans, which include a collaboration with the Spanish Fashion Academy (ACME).
The students presented a collection of designs inspired by Spain and its culture, such as those dedicated to Dalí and Lorca. The Ambassador also spoke with some of the 130 Spanish students at the college.
Founded in 1989, Central Saint Martins has been home to designers such as Stella McCartney, John Galliano, or Alexander McQueen, as well as Spanish designers like Paula Cánovas or Ernesto Naranjo. Its methodology includes reinterpreting classic art through a fashion lens, as well as pursuing sustainable production and using innovative materials. In 2018, it collaborated with the Cristóbal Balenciaga Museum in Getaria, as the Basque designer is a key influence for the Centre.
