The British Library hosted the presentation of "writing from Spain", which covers current Spanish literature, with a tribute to Almudena Grandes and Javier Marías, recently deceased, and well-known writers in the United Kingdom.
Writers, translators, publicists and academics participated in the event, who underlined the popularity of Spanish literature amongst the British, thanks to the numerous and good translations into English. Rosa Montero or Juan Cruz read fragments of some of the best-known Spanish works.
As the publication mentions, the profound social and political changes in recent decades in Spain have given birth to a diverse literature, which is reflected in the plurality of languages and styles. Thus, the appearance of LGBTQI literature or the success of women writers stands out.
