The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador, Jose Pascual Marco, and the President of the Santander Foundation, Rodrigo Echenique, which sponsors the awards together with the Society of Spanish Researchers in the United Kingdom.
Carmen Galán, President of the jury, announced that this year's winner was Dr. Roser Vento-Tormo, whose team has made important advances in the field of women's health thanks to the use of innovative techniques to generate tissue atlases from human reproductive systems. Dr. Vento-Tormo declared that she was "deeply honoured by the award, which recognizes the immense talent that exists in our country".
The Ambassador, for his part, highlighted the work and contributions of the Spanish scientific community in the United Kingdom. In addition, he underlined the importance of scientific relations between the United Kingdom and the European Union, strengthened by the return of the UK to the Horizon Europe programme.
