European Day of Languages in Edinburgh

On 27th September, we invite you to an afternoon full of culture, knowledge and fun on the European Day of Languages.  This event, organised in collaboration with a collaboration of several consulates, the Ministry of Education in the UK and European cultural organisations, offers a unique opportunity to explore Europe's linguistic and cultural heritage. Edinburgh Spanish Film Festival Schools Programme.


With the support of the Department of Education and the Consulate General of Spain in Edinburgh, the Edinburgh Spanish Film Festival is pleased to present its schools programme, which includes the screening of two outstanding Spanish films, one in a live format in Edinburgh and the other online.

  • El Olivo - Online screening. The festival offers the opportunity to provide access to all UK classrooms for the screening of the Goya award-winning film ‘El Olivo’, directed by Icíar Bollaín in 2016. To access the film, it will be necessary to request an access code, allowing it to be shown in secondary school classrooms from 30th September to 4th October.   • The Teacher Who Promised the Sea - Screening in Edinburgh. The festival also offers the possibility for both students and teachers to attend an exclusive in-person screening for secondary school students of the film ‘El maestro que prometió el mar’, directed by Patricia Font and nominated for five Goya awards in its last edition. The screening will take place on Wednesday 9 October at 10:30 am in the cinema room of the French Institute in Edinburgh. ​E​dinburgh Spanish Film Festival:

Once again this year, the Edinburgh Spanish Film Festival is being held between 3rd  and 26th October. This event promises to be a meeting point for film lovers, with a varied programme that will include film screenings, talks and special activities. 

  • María Dueñas, the famous novelist and author of the bestseller ‘El tiempo entre costuras’, will be in conversation with Professor Alexis Grohman as part of the ESFF. The conversation will be conducted in Spanish. Evenbrite.It opens in new window
  • Wine tasting at the Alvear winery: On the opening day of the Festival we will have the opportunity to taste wines from the Alvear winery. Rioja wine tasting in Edinburgh.

Concert and artistic residency by guitarist Samuel Diz 

Samuel will perform a journey through the music of the Generation of ‘27 and the Spanish exiles after the Spanish Civil War. 
Estimated date 28 November.

Meeting on infrastructures and the environment, end 2024. 

We will have a guest from the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas and this is a project in collaboration with the School of Architecture of the University of Edinburgh.
